What is the current version of Prdesktop?

The current version of Prdesktop is 2.3 (at the moment when this help was written). We recommend to periodically check the site of Prdesktop (www.cainosoft.com) for updates.

What is the difference between Prdesktop and other analogous utilities?

Prdesktop uses internal desktop management API of the operating system. Contrary to Prdesktop, other desktop management utilities use the approach of sending "show/hide" messages to the windows to switch their "virtual" desktops. Therefore, Prdesktop is deprived of many annoying errors and shortages which are very common for analogous utilities.

Common defects of analogous utilities are:

if switching a desktop immediately after running an application, some of the windows of that application are shown on one desktop, the rest are shown on another;
pop-up windows of an application running at some desktop are shown on another desktop;
if applications hangs, it does not disappear from the screen even when user switches to another desktop;
if there are too many windows, they repaint very slowly when the desktop is switched;
etc.

Prdesktop has no bugs like those due to its architecture: it creates real desktops, not virtual. Prdesktop is more stable, faster and less expensive than other software of this class.

What operating systems does Prdesktop work on?

Prdesktop works under the following operating systems:

Windows NT 4.0 (all versions)
Windows 2000 (all versions)
Windows XP (all versions)
Windows Server 2003

Prdesktop doesn't work on Windows 9x/ME because these systems have another architecture (without support of desktop management services on API level).

Where should I report a bug?

You should report all bugs to support@cainosoft.com. We would be very grateful for bug reports, and moreover, we usually grant a free licence to those who help us fixing bugs.

Can I ask for improvements or additional features?

Of course, you are welcome to ask us for new features. You can share your ideas of what else you would like to see in Prdesktop. Please, submit our comments to support@cainosoft.com. As in the case with bugs, we also pay a free license to those who will give us a very useful idea of how to make Prdesktop better.

I have installed Prdesktop. What's next? How to work with it?

Very easy. Switching between desktops is done either through the pop-up menu of the system tray or by hot keys Alt+1, Alt+2,Alt+3 (by default),switch to desktop 1 by click left and right mouse button at the same time . All settings are configured in the Prdesktop Options Panel.

What is the status of Prdesktop?

Prdesktop is a shareware. You can use it without registration for 30 days. As soon as this period expires, you have to register Prdesktop. Registration price for version 2.3 is $19.95.

Why isn't there a way of closing a desktop?

Let us ask another question: what is "to close a desktop"? The desktop itself does not take memory resources, contrary to the applications running on it. Therefore, if you want to close a desktop - just close all application on that desktop - that's it.

How to move applications from one desktop to another?

Unfortunately, the Microsoft's desktop management API does not allow to enable such a feature in the Prdesktop. You should close the application on one desktop and open it in another.

I cannot launch Prdesktop. When I am trying to launch it, nothing happens.

Prdesktop is already running, but your settings are so that the desktop number icon is hidden. Default hot key for opening the Prdesktop Options Panel is Shift+Alt+X. Default hot key for showing/hiding the icon is Shift+Alt+A. Try both of them and see the result.
